Quotes of the Day : Nan Goldin
QUOTES OF THE DAY
+ Selected Works by Nan Goldin
"I always thought if I photographed anyone or anything enough, I would never lose the person, I would never lose the memory, I would never lose the place. But the pictures show me how much I've lost."
"My desire is to preserve the sense of peoples' lives, to endow them with the strength and beauty I see in them. I want the people in my pictures to stare back. I want to show exactly what my world looks like, without glamorization, without glorification."
PS Many thanks to those who have left me comments, it is a great motivation and support to someone who has just started blogging and is obviously enjoying the fun of sharing!

New Girl Crush: Astrid Berges-Frisbey
For those who have watched <Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides> would not fail to recognise this pretty face, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, who is one of the beautiful mermaids from the film and a model in real life.
I think she has this unique air about her that certainly makes her stands out a lot. She is totally my new girl crush!
Do check out this video as well, she looks breath-takingly beautiful in it!

It is not usual for me to have an urge to own everything from one single collection.
But Theyskens' Theory Resort 2012 certainly won my heart over completely.
I simply want every single outfit from the photos.

Mulberry Book : Perfect coffee -table read
This is a new item on my wish list. This year marks Mulberry's 40th birthday, the much-loved brand celebrates its anniversary with the publication of this book, which chronicles the events that have shaped Mulberry in the past two years, with photos from parties, the creation of the famous bags to shots of staff and the Mulberry team. Just the cover of the book already made me believe that this would be the perfect summer coffee- table read!

Do : Spare 30 seconds of your day
Grazia UK has always been one of my favourite magazines,
I particularly love its "10 hot stories" section,
which covers world stories that matter to its female readers,
mostly from the world of fashion and beauty,
but it also features humanitarian stories which we could easily symathize with.
The lastest issue has once again done it,
by grabbing my attention with this story,
where you see a spread with the faces of 27 women,
which is the number of women that get raped in Congo every 40 minutes.
The layout of the story is impeccably done,
and I truely believe that everyone who has read this page, must have been inspired to take part in the Congo petition advertised here straight away.
Participating is easy, simply click on this link http://www.congonow.org/
it will take you to the online petition page
where you just fill in your name, postcode and email,
and you are DONE!
SO easy.
I did mine in less than 30 seconds,
would you like to join me by sparing 30 seconds of yours?

London at its loveliest time
GO Southbank
I always consider this time of the year as the time when London is at its loveliest form. Sunny with breeze from time to time, which makes it not too suffocating. From the photo you may well think that it is a Sunday afternoon or the weekends. In fact, it is taken at about 5:30pm on a Friday. It is just lovely to see people all gathering outdoor, sharing jokes and drinks.
Southbank is totally the best place to spend a lovely day at. With the Royal Festival Hall, Hayward Gallery, Stalls, lovely restaurants around, can life get better than that?
Lovely day for a family /friends gathering
Came across this poem
"Beautiful is my name.
Got a problem, say it to my face"
My two lovely friends with whom I spent the day with
this is a new way of working the colour-blocking trend : sit next to a friend who wears a skirt with a different colour from yours
Eventually we chose to end the lovely day in the Italian way

Tracy Emin : Love is What You Want
My first post would be dedicated to one of the most inspiring exhibitions that I have been in recent years. Before I went to this exhibition, I only knew Emin for her neon works. Not until I decided to go to this exhibition that I found out more about her other work.
The exhibition features painting, drawing, photography, textiles, video and sculpture, which are powerful with strong emotions attached to it, e.g. romantic, desperate, angry, funny and full of longing. The exhibition itself is well-curated I thought, I always find it useful in understanding an artist when his work is displayed chronologically. In this exhibition in particular, there are seldom-seen early works, which eventually helped a lot to understand Emin's more recent large-scale installations .
The most amazing part of the exhibition is seeing how Emin uses her own life as the starting point for her art, which at the same time, transcends itself and become universally provocative. Reading her personal anecdotes is intriguing, since some are witty, some are ironic and yet, all of them are heartfelt.
The Complimentary Exhibition Guide is petite but nicely done
SOUVENIRS I ended up spending some money in the shop, purchasing a couple of postcards and a book on Tracy Emin. It is one that is published by the Tate. Just started reading it and I think it is a good catch with its price. A good beginners' guide to understand Emin and her work.
" This book does not attempt such an analysis, but aims only to be helpful in returning attention to the art of Tracy Emin, rather than to Emin the personality and celebrity icon, interesting though that story is. Six representative examples of her work, each given its own chapter, will be accompanied by interview quotes or texts by the artist, followed, at the end of the book, by a chapter on the wider context o the belief systems that inform Emin's practice."
Shame that photos are not allowed in the exhibition, but would definitely recommend anyone to go.
